A date for all your diaries-Thursday 14th June, 2018

The next Shropshire Disability Network Members’ Meeting will be held on 14th June 2018 at the University Centre Shrewsbury, Guildhall, Frankwell Quay Shrewsbury SY3 8HQ.

We look forward to welcoming our guest speakers:

  • Ruth Jones from Veolia, who will be talking to us about recycling (a dirty job, but someone has to do it) and
  • One of our own members,Tony Lawrence, who will be telling us about Tai Chi and how it can be beneficial to us. Tai Chi can be very helpful to those suffering from ME, Fibromyalgia and MS and many other long term conditions.

Shropshire Choices will have an information stand. They will also talk for 5 minutes to tell you about their plans. Sophie Ewan-Roberts -User Experience and Strategy Coordinator, Digital Services Team, Shropshire Council said:

“As the team behind the council’s website, we want to engage with groups like the Shropshire Disability Network, with the aim of developing and enhancing the available resources.  Our current work on the Shropshire Choices content would benefit greatly from your feedback; from the way you navigate round the pages, down to the relevancy and detail of the information. The website is dedicated to helping support people to live independent, active and healthy lives as part of their local communities, through the links to services from the local authority, NHS partners and voluntary and community groups.  Do you have an opinion? Then please let us know!

We will have our usual raffle and a sales table, where you can buy hand made items that make perfect gifts.

We have also been fortunate to receive a hearing loop system from one of our committee members.  We will also have BSL interpreters present as well.

For further information please email: [email protected] (Secretary) or call or text 07398 350255 (SDN Secretary Mobile Number) for more information.

Public Consultation into changes to hospital services in Shropshire set to launch

People across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales are to be asked for their views on proposals to transform local hospital services when the NHS Future Fit public consultation is launched later this month.

Throughout the 14-week consultation, there will be eight public exhibition events where people can drop in and meet doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff, ask questions and find out more. Shropshire Disability Network notes the 8 dates below, enabling you to put them in your diary now.

In addition, representatives from the CCGs will be attending a range of meetings and events providing regular updates and answering questions. And there will be a range of pop-up style roadshows at community and public venues across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales. All meetings and events will be publicised on the website www.nhsfuturefit.org and in the local media.

The formal public consultation will ask for people’s views on two options:

  • Option 1: The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital becomes an Emergency Care site and the Princess Royal Hospital becomes a Planned Care site (This is the CCGs’ preferred option)
  • Option 2: The Princess Royal Hospital becomes an Emergency care site and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital becomes a Planned Care site

Under either option, both hospitals would have an Urgent Care Centre that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A tale of woe and peas.

Woyzeck just can’t get a break. He’s stuck living in military barracks. He’s forced to shave his condescending commanding officer everyday. His wages are pitiful. His girlfriend might be having an affair. And now he is hearing voices. Maybe he’s starting to crack? Or maybe it’s just because his doctor is trialling a pea-only diet on him? It’s far from ideal but his doctor’s poking and prodding comes with the reward of some extra money. It’s the chance for a better life if Woyzeck can just hold on that little bit longer…

Theatre and dance combine in an exhilarating story about fighting for a better life when everything else seems to be fighting against you. It’s also a story that celebrates the West Midlands spirit as a community chorus of one hundred performers and dancers bring this show to life.

Contains strong language.

Please note all performances between 19 – 23 June will be Audio Described and Captioned. There will be a BSL interpreted performance on 20 June
