The OHMI Trust is a UK-based charity pioneering the development and adaptation of musical instruments for people who are physically disabled.

Our objective is to remove the barriers to music making faced by physically disabled people, and to enable undifferentiated participation in musical life, whether at school, in the home or in a professional ensemble.

There are four elements to our work:

  • The acquisition of instruments through our international competition
  • Music Makers - our teaching support programme
  • Research into music education, instrument design, instrument manufacture, and social issues
  • Making instruments available through a national hire scheme

We are UK Men’s Sheds Association, the support body for Men’s Sheds across the UK. We raise awareness of the Men’s Sheds movement and the many benefits of Shedding and we support Men’s Sheds in getting off the ground and thriving as community-driven, member-led entities. We don’t own or manage Men’s Sheds, but we champion them for miles around.

Our mission is to enable access to a Men’s Shed for every man that would benefit from one and we won’t stop until we’ve achieved it.

  • Promoting the Men’s Sheds movement so as many people as possible know about them. We want Men’s Sheds to be a household name so that every man knows what they are and how to find one.
  • Promoting individual Men’s Sheds to help put interested members of the community in touch with their nearest Men’s Shed. We do this by maintaining an up-to-date map of UK Sheds on our website, through social and print media and by forwarding enquiries to the relevant local Shed groups and attracting support for member Sheds.
  • Providing advice and guidance on starting up and running a shed to help grow the number of UK Men’s Sheds. We do this by providing practical information guides, example documents and toolkits on topics such as registering as a charity, insurance, funding, sourcing equipment and venues, and volunteer recruitment. We provide telephone, email and in-person support to individuals and groups wanting to start a Men’s Shed. We equip them with the knowledge to develop and sustain a thriving Men’s Shed in their community for years to come.
  • Training volunteer Ambassadors with experience of starting their own Men’s Sheds to mentor and guide like-minded individuals and groups in starting and managing Men’s Sheds across the UK.
  • Holding networking events to connect men from different Men’s Sheds across the UK. Here they can share experiences, knowledge and skills, and make friends for life with others who share interests and a common purpose.

Ring NHS 111 Over May Bank Holiday Weekend

Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have issued this press release regarding May Bank Holiday.

“Patients are reminded by NHS Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) that GP Practices will be closed over the May Bank Holiday Weekend.

GP Practices across the County will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday (6 May). There will be appointments under the extended access service for pre-bookable routine GP appointments. These are booked at a patient’s local practice and the appointment will be offered at a local GP hub so patients may not see their own GP.

Pharmacies across Shropshire are also operating on a rota over the May Bank Holiday Weekend.

Full details of the pharmacy rota are available on the CCG’s website www.shropshireccg.nhs.uk or by calling NHS 111.

NHS 111 is free to call from any landline or mobile and is open 24/7, including bank holidays. Trained advisors can help advise and direct you to the help and care you need including what to do if you need to see a doctor when your practice is closed as well as where your nearest pharmacy is.

Dr Julian Povey, Chair of Shropshire CCG, said: “GP Practices will be closed over the Bank Holiday Weekend, but there is no need to worry if you need help and advice. Just call 111.

“You will be offered help and advice by NHS 111, which can also direct you to services if you can’t wait until your practice is open.”

Address: The Grange, Wycombe Road, Saunderton, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire HP279NS

We train hearing dogs that help deaf people to leave loneliness behind. We train dogs to alert deaf people to sounds they would otherwise miss – simple sounds that many people take for granted like the doorbell, alarm clock and even danger signals like the fire alarm. Being aware of these – thanks to a hearing dog – makes a real difference to deaf people’s lives.

Hearing dogs have saved countless lives in their important role; fire alarms sounding at the dead of night, alerting them to the shouts of a loved one who is in peril, even saving their recipients from potential car thieves!
