For over forty years Fish Insurance has been providing specialist insurance in the UK for people with pre-existing medical conditions, disabilities or mobility issues.

Each of our 80,000 policyholders have policies that have been specially designed to meet their unique and specific requirements.

We provide specialist insurance cover for manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, mobility scooters, in-home products such as stair lifts and hoists as well as cover for a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV).

We also provide liability insurance to protect people who employ their own personal assistants in the home. In designing all our policies we work closely not just with our customers, but healthcare professionals, local authorities, mobility and healthcare equipment dealers, charities and our insurers.

Mobility Trust provides powered wheelchairs and scooters for UK residents who have severe disabilities and who cannot obtain such equipment through other means. We aim to reach and help people who, quite simply, have nowhere else to turn. We are the only UK charity that provides such broad support, regardless of age or cause of disabilities.

Discussion Forum: [email protected]

The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) delivers information, advice, training and learning events to guide older and disabled people to the practical equipment solutions to everyday living. It is the leading national charity providing information across multiple technology areas from wheelchairs to kitchen aids, bathroom adaptations to clothing, telecare to leisure equipment. We work in partnership with many other charities to support their members to find the information that is vital to maximising independence.

In late 2009 the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) took over running Youreable and today is responsible for hosting and moderating the site day-to-day. The Forum currently has 300 active users who log in to the site at least once a week to answer questions and provide guidance and 60,000 visitors to the site each year.

To mark our 75th anniversary, WRVS have relaunched as Royal Voluntary Service. Along with a new name, we also have a new logo, and a new slogan: ‘together for older people’ Research shows that the name WRVS (which stood for Women’s Royal Voluntary Service) did not reflect what we do, and hindered new people understanding and feeling inspired by our work. ‘Royal Voluntary Service’ is more easily understood; it conveys a sense of our history and belief in the power of volunteering, as one of the largest volunteer organisations in Britain  It is also more inclusive, showing that we are here for men as well as women.

Older people tell us there are five key conditions that need to be in place to live well:

  • Respect for who I am
  • I can get the help I want
  • I feel in control
  • I feel that I belong
  • I have people I can trust’

RVS can help:

In the home: Meals on Wheels, Home library services, Good Neighbours, Community transport

In the community: Lunch clubs, Social centres and community clubs, Information centres and cafes, Community centres and cafes

In hospitals: Hospital shops and cafes, Home from Hospital, Greeting and guiding, Patient support, Gifting

In emergencies and disasters: Evacuation to rest centres, Helplines and casualty bureaus, Crisis support, Emergency feeding, Emergency response training

The Armed Forces: Services welfare, Soldier support, Locations

  • Cycling4All Shropshire is a new community group that wants to increase all-ability cycling opportunities in Shropshire. We are working to raise awareness of what is already on offer and to increase the chances to take part and get new people to take part. There are currently outdoor sessions running at several locations across Shropshire including, Shrewsbury Sports Village, Cae Glas Park, Oswestry and South Shropshire Leisure Centre, Ludlow. It is easy to take part and you can just come along on a drop in basis or contact the centres to ask about pre- booked sessions. There are sessions that run through the school holidays which gives an opportunity for the whole family to join in. The activities we currently offer are:
    • Access to a range of adaptive cycles
    • Supported sessions where there is a trained person on hand to help you choose the right cycle and enjoy your ride
    • Opportunities for using the adaptive cycles during the school holidays so families can take part.
    • Open sessions where the participants can come along on a drop in basis and change bikes as required or desired during the session
    • Block and regular bookings
    • Out of hours, carer led, individual and group sessions for WFA trained carers (there is an induction process to complete)
